1977 год. Иван Петрович Черкасов как всегда занят расследованием сложного и запутанного дела. С крыши сбросили студента архитектурного института. Его мать покончила с собой. Следы ведут на ипподром, где погиб жокей. И на окраине находят труп одного из служителей ипподрома. Подозреваемые – жители элитного дома, деятели культуры.
